NEW YORK, June 7 (Reuters) - “Schmigadoon!” won the Tony Award for best musical on Sunday, topping a competitive field on Broadway’s biggest night.

Based on the television series, the musical is a send-up of Golden Age Broadway shows as a modern couple find themselves trapped in a musical-theater fantasy world.

It was widely viewed as a leading contender after strong reviews and multiple nominations.
