Arias scores twice for Colombia in friendly win over Jordan
June 8 (Reuters Sports Service) - Yun Arias scored twice to lead Colombia to a 2-0 victory over Jordan in San Diego on Sunday, in the two teams' final friendly match before the World Cup.
James Rodriguez passed the ball to Arias to open the scoring in the 41st minute. Palmeiras midfielder Arias stumbled initially before recovering the ball on the edge of the penalty area, regaining his balance and firing a low shot that Yazid Abulaila failed to stop.
Arias scored his second goal ten minutes into the second half when he headed home a superb cross from Santiago Arias.
Jordan were unable to get into the game, and substitute midfielder Amer Jammous was sent off in stoppage time after receiving a second yellow card.
This is Colombia's second consecutive win, having beaten Costa Rica 3-1 earlier this month.
Colombia, who failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, begin their campaign in Group 11 against Uzbekistan on June 17 in Mexico City.
In contrast, Jordan will open its first World Cup campaign against Austria in Group 10 on June 16 at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium.
