Al-Badawi: $110.4 billion in tourism revenues in the Gulf countries in 2023

Kuwait - Mubasher: The number of international tourists coming to the GCC countries reached 68.1 million tourists by 2023, said Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi.
Jassim Al-Badawi added, according to a statement by the Gulf Cooperation Council today, Monday, that the value of tourism revenues in the Gulf countries amounted to $110.4 billion for the year 2023.
He continued: "Implementing projects within the Gulf Tourism Strategy 2023-2030, to enhance the tourism status of the Council countries regionally and internationally, and in accordance with the directives of the leaders of the Council countries, and then thanks to the efforts of the Committee of Ministers Responsible for Tourism in the Council countries."
This came during the speech of the Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council, at the ninth meeting of the Committee of Ministers Responsible for Tourism in the GCC countries. The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs in the State of Kuwait - Chairman of the current session - Abdulrahman Badah Al-Mutairi, and attended by the ministers responsible for tourism in the GCC countries.
During his speech, Al-Badawi reviewed a number of tourism statistics, stating that the number of international tourists coming to the GCC countries reached 68.1 million tourists until 2023, with a growth rate of 42.8% compared to 2019, thus achieving 52.9% of the Gulf targets for 2030.
According to the statement, the value of tourism revenues amounted to $110.4 billion for the year 2023, with a growth rate of 28.2% compared to 2019, with the GCC countries thus recording qualitative leaps that exceeded all expectations, by achieving 58.7% of the 2030 target of $188 billion.
The Gulf countries’ market share reached 5.2% of global tourism and 7.2% of international tourism revenues, which consolidates their position as a major hub in the global tourism scene and in terms of added value to the GDP.
Al-Badawi stressed that the tourism sector has achieved a significant economic contribution of $223.4 billion to our countries’ gross domestic product, with an annual growth rate of 29.4% between 2022 and 2023. The tourism sector also added 1.5 million jobs during 2023, with a growth rate of 17% compared to 2020.
