Live: Hamas announced the release of Israeli-American hostage Idan Alexander.

Hamas handed over Idan Alexander to the International Committee of the Red Cross, Reuters reported on Monday.

The agency indicated that Idan Alexander is on his way to Israel via the Kissufim crossing with Gaza.

US President Donald Trump said a short while ago that "American detainee Aidan Alexander will be released within two hours."

The Arab Republic of Egypt and the State of Qatar welcomed the announcement by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) of its agreement to release American hostage Idan Alexander, who had been held by it. They considered this step a gesture of goodwill encouraging the resumption of talks between the concerned parties.

The two countries affirmed that this step represents a positive indicator that could contribute to advancing efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, release prisoners and detainees, and ensure the safe and regular flow of humanitarian aid into the Strip, amid the worsening tragic conditions.

Both sides stressed the need to urgently end the ongoing war in Gaza to avoid further deterioration of the humanitarian situation, calling for action with sincere will and good faith toward achieving a comprehensive, just, and sustainable peace in the region.

Egypt and Qatar also reiterated their commitment to continuing their joint and consistent mediation efforts in the Gaza Strip, in coordination with the United States, with the aim of alleviating civilian suffering, creating conditions for a comprehensive ceasefire, and bringing an end to the ongoing war and the unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe it has caused.
