Zawya - Press Releases: Etihad Airways in a new partnership with TAROM across Eastern Europe
- The codeshare agreement supports Etihad Airways' new service between Abu Dhabi and Bucharest, which will launch on December 17, 2026.
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, and TAROM, the national airline of Romania, have signed a codeshare partnership agreement linking Etihad’s guests around the world to Romania and Eastern Europe, and connecting travelers from Romania to Abu Dhabi, Etihad Airways’ home base and gateway to its global network.
The agreement was signed during the annual general meeting of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in Rio de Janeiro.
Under this partnership, Etihad Airways guests can book a single ticket on TAROM flights from Bucharest to six cities in Romania: Baia Mare, Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Oradea, Ceuta, and Timișoara, as well as four Eastern European capitals: Belgrade, Budapest, Chișinău, and Sofia. Passengers traveling from Romania can also connect to Abu Dhabi from Bucharest via Etihad's new service.
This agreement supports the launch of Etihad’s new service between Abu Dhabi and Bucharest on December 17, 2026, which will enable guests to travel on a single ticket between Bucharest and other destinations within the Etihad network, with the option to ship luggage to its final destination.
Romania is one of the fastest-growing economies in Eastern Europe and a growing tourist destination, attracting visitors to the historic cities of Transylvania, the Carpathian Mountains, and the Danube River Delta.
For guests traveling from Romania, the codeshare agreement opens new horizons for accessing Abu Dhabi and discovering its magnificent landmarks, from the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the museums of Saadiyat Island to its luxurious beaches and resorts. From the UAE capital, guests can continue their journeys with Etihad to destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Australia.
On this occasion, Eric Dee, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer of Etihad Airways, commented: “TAROM strengthens Etihad’s presence in Eastern Europe. It is a well-established national airline with over seven decades of experience in European aviation and a strong route network covering Romania and the surrounding region. Launching this agreement allows us to enter a rapidly growing market with real strength, ahead of launching our own flights to Bucharest.”
For his part, Mircea Nicolae Cotorus, Chief Commercial Officer of TAROM, announced: “This agreement expands TAROM’s international reach, provides travelers with a new connecting flight between Bucharest and Abu Dhabi, strengthens ties between Romania and the Middle East, supports the continued growth of our network, and encourages cultural and economic exchange between our two countries.”
With the addition of TAROM, Etihad Airways’ partner network now includes 47 airlines under codeshare agreements and more than 130 partner airlines under connecting flight agreements, the largest among non-alliance airlines, enabling travelers to access more than 350 destinations worldwide with single or bundled tickets.
