Before Trump's visit, Saudi-US trade exceeds $160 billion in five years

Mubasher - Mr. Jamal: From May 13 to 16, US President Donald Trump will conduct his first visit to the Middle East since returning to the White House. The visit will include visits to three Gulf states: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE.

The US President's Gulf tour begins in Saudi Arabia, one of the United States' most important trading partners in the Middle East. Trade between the two countries reached SAR 603.14 billion ($160.84 billion) over the past five years, from 2020 to 2024.

The volume of trade exchange between the United States and Saudi Arabia increased from 86.17 billion riyals ($22.98 billion) in 2020 to 114.07 billion riyals ($30.41 billion) in 2021, then jumped the following year to 152.12 billion riyals ($40.57 billion) in 2022, while it reached 129.08 billion riyals ($34.42 billion) in 2023, and finally exceeded 121.7 billion riyals ($32.45 billion) in 2024.

Saudi Arabia's foreign trade with the United States has witnessed a surplus in the latter's favor over the past five years, amounting to 46.92 billion riyals ($12.51 billion), while the Kingdom recorded a trade deficit with the US in 2020, 2021, 2023, and 2024.

The Kingdom's exports to the US amounted to 278.11 billion riyals ($74.16 billion) over the past five years, compared to imports worth 325.03 billion riyals ($86.67 billion).

Since the beginning of 2025, the value of Saudi exports to the United States reached 5.86 billion riyals ($1.56 billion) in the first two months of this year, compared to imports amounting to 10.97 billion riyals ($2.93 billion), bringing the total trade exchange during that period to 16.83 billion riyals ($4.49 billion).

On March 8, US President Donald Trump announced his intention to visit Saudi Arabia and conclude a $1 trillion deal .

On April 23, the White House revealed that President Trump will visit Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE between May 13 and 16, 2025.

On February 20, US President Donald J. Trump affirmed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia enjoys a special status in the United States thanks to its exceptional leaders.

On January 23, 2025, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Chairman of the Council of Ministers, made a phone call to US President Donald Trump, days after the US President's return to the White House.

During the call, the Crown Prince affirmed the Kingdom's desire to expand its investments and trade relations with the United States over the next four years, to a value of $600 billion, with the potential to increase if additional opportunities arise.
