- The United States on Monday released an updated list of Chinese companies it believes are aiding the Chinese military, including e-commerce group Alibaba, internet search engine Baidu and automaker BYD.

The U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) briefly published an updated list in February before withdrawing it. The list released today includes several companies that were added in February.

Other companies added include biotechnology company Wuxi AppTech and AI-powered robotics company Robosense Technology.

Although the Pentagon list does not impose formal sanctions on Chinese companies, a new law will prevent the Department of Defense in the coming years from contracting with or purchasing from companies on the list.

The inclusion on the list also sends a message to suppliers to the Pentagon and other U.S. government agencies regarding the U.S. military's opinion of these companies, some of which have filed lawsuits against the United States because of their inclusion on the list.
