NEWS: Day 83 of the war: Dead and wounded in Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip
Jihan Laghmari
Israeli raids on various areas of the Gaza Strip have been renewed, on the 83rd day of the war between Israel and the Palestinian resistance movement (Hamas), amidst the deterioration of the situation in the West Bank.
The Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) quoted the Red Crescent Society on Thursday as saying that 10 Palestinians were killed and 12 others were injured in an Israeli bombardment that targeted a house near the society’s Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip.
The bombing also targeted Deir al-Balah and al-Maghazi camp in the central Gaza Strip, killing a number of Palestinians and wounding others.
According to WAFA, 7 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli raid on a house in the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip.
The people of Gaza suffer from the lack of basic services in hospitals and the depletion of food and drinking water.
WAFA quoted the Palestinian Red Crescent as saying that respiratory and skin diseases have spread in shelters in the Gaza Strip, due to the overcrowding of displaced people and the lack of cleanliness.
The number of people killed in the war on the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the conflict on October 7 has reached about 21,110 dead and 55,243 injured, in addition to thousands of missing people, in an incomplete toll, according to the (Wafa) Agency.
West Bank
In the West Bank, a young man was killed by Israeli forces and 14 others were injured during clashes that broke out at dawn on Thursday around Al-Manara roundabout in the center of Ramallah.
The West Bank is under the rule of the Palestinian Authority, but Israel has almost complete control over more than 60% of it in what is known as “Area C” through having the authority to implement the law, plan and build there. Despite Israel’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in 2005 – before Hamas took control of it – Israel has kept military forces in the cities and villages of the West Bank and has increased settlement activity there.
Among the cities in the West Bank are: Jenin, Ramallah, Nablus, Bethlehem, Hebron, and East Jerusalem (which is supposed to be the capital of the State of Palestine), and the United Nations describes the Israeli measures as undermining the Palestinian Authority.
