WisdomTree's (NYSE:WT) Dividend Will Be $0.03
WisdomTree Investments Inc WT | 16.38 | -0.79% |
WisdomTree, Inc. (NYSE:WT) has announced that it will pay a dividend of $0.03 per share on the 25th of February. This means the annual payment will be 0.7% of the current stock price, which is lower than the industry average.
While the dividend yield is important for income investors, it is also important to consider any large share price moves, as this will generally outweigh any gains from distributions. Investors will be pleased to see that WisdomTree's stock price has increased by 38% in the last 3 months, which is good for shareholders and can also explain a decrease in the dividend yield.
WisdomTree's Future Dividend Projections Appear Well Covered By Earnings
Even a low dividend yield can be attractive if it is sustained for years on end. However, WisdomTree's earnings easily cover the dividend. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.
The next year is set to see EPS grow by 42.2%. Assuming the dividend continues along recent trends, we think the payout ratio could be 9.4% by next year, which is in a pretty sustainable range.
Dividend Volatility
While the company has been paying a dividend for a long time, it has cut the dividend at least once in the last 10 years. Since 2016, the dividend has gone from $0.32 total annually to $0.12. This works out to be a decline of approximately 9.3% per year over that time. Declining dividends isn't generally what we look for as they can indicate that the company is running into some challenges.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
Given that dividend payments have been shrinking like a glacier in a warming world, we need to check if there are some bright spots on the horizon. We are encouraged to see that WisdomTree has grown earnings per share at 33% per year over the past five years. Earnings per share is growing at a solid clip, and the payout ratio is low which we think is an ideal combination in a dividend stock as the company can quite easily raise the dividend in the future.
WisdomTree Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock
In summary, it is good to see that the dividend is staying consistent, and we don't think there is any reason to suspect this might change over the medium term. Distributions are quite easily covered by earnings, which are also being converted to cash flows. All in all, this checks a lot of the boxes we look for when choosing an income stock.
Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable. However, there are other things to consider for investors when analysing stock performance. Is WisdomTree not quite the opportunity you were looking for?
