CBOT wheat lower on supply pressure
CHICAGO, June 12 (Reuters) - Chicago Board of Trade wheat futures turned lower on Friday on a strong global supply of wheat, traders said.
CBOT July soft red winter wheat WN26 fell 2-1/4 cents to $5.84-1/2 per bushel.
K.C. July hard red winter wheat KWN26 ended down 1/4 cent at $6.34-1/2 a bushel.
Minneapolis July spring wheat MWEN26 fell 1-1/4 cents to $6.18-1/4 a bushel.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Friday lowered its forecast of U.S. 2026 wheat production for the 2026/27 marketing year to 1.543 billion bushels from 1.561 billion in May, below an average of analyst estimates.
Production of hard red winter wheat, the largest variety grown in the U.S., was projected to fall to 497 million bushels, the lowest level since 1957, following a drought in the Plains.
However, the USDA raised its forecast of global wheat inventories remaining at the end of the 2026/27 marketing year to 275.42 million metric tons from 275.04 million in May, while analysts surveyed by Reuters on average had expected a slight reduction.
