Potential Team, Inc. (NYSE:TISI) shareholders may wish to note that the Executive VP & CFO, Clinton Roeder, recently bought US$206k worth of stock, paying US$22.89 for each share. However, it only increased shareholding by a small percentage, and it wasn't a huge purchase by absolute value, either.

Team Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Notably, that recent purchase by Clinton Roeder is the biggest insider purchase of Team shares that we've seen in the last year. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at around the current price of US$23.01. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. We do always like to see insider buying, but it is worth noting if those purchases were made at well below today's share price, as the discount to value may have narrowed with the rising price. In this case we're pleased to report that the insider purchases were made at close to current prices.

In the last twelve months insiders purchased 53.15k shares for US$957k. But they sold 1.57k shares for US$23k. Overall, Team insiders were net buyers during the last year. Their average price was about US$18.00. We don't deny that it is nice to see insiders buying stock in the company. But we must note that the investments were made at well below today's share price. Insider Ownership

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Team insiders own about US$46m worth of shares (which is 42% of the company). I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.

What Might The Insider Transactions At Team Tell Us?

It's certainly positive to see the recent insider purchases. And an analysis of the transactions over the last year also gives us confidence. However, we note that the company didn't make a profit over the last twelve months, which makes us cautious. Once you factor in the high insider ownership, it certainly seems like insiders are positive about Team. Looks promising! So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing.
