Some Credicorp Ltd. (NYSE:BAP) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that insider Diego Cavero Belaunde recently sold a substantial US$1.1m worth of stock at a price of US$319 per share. That sale reduced their total holding by 32% which is hardly insignificant, but far from the worst we've seen.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Credicorp

In fact, the recent sale by Diego Cavero Belaunde was the biggest sale of Credicorp shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$352. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. We note that the biggest single sale was only 32% of Diego Cavero Belaunde's holding.

Credicorp insiders didn't buy any shares over the last year. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. I will like Credicorp better if I see some big insider buys.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Credicorp insiders own about US$772m worth of shares (which is 2.8% of the company). I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.

So What Do The Credicorp Insider Transactions Indicate?

Insiders sold Credicorp shares recently, but they didn't buy any. And even if we look at the last year, we didn't see any purchases. On the plus side, Credicorp makes money, and is growing profits. The company boasts high insider ownership, but we're a little hesitant, given the history of share sales. So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company.
