Have Precigen Insiders Been Selling Stock?
Precigen Inc PGEN | 0.00 |
Some Precigen, Inc. (NASDAQ:PGEN) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that the President, Helen Sabzevari, recently sold a substantial US$520k worth of stock at a price of US$4.36 per share. However, that sale only accounted for 3.1% of their holding, so arguably it doesn't say much about their conviction.
Precigen Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Executive Chairman, Randal Kirk, for US$7.7m worth of shares, at about US$3.30 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$3.86. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. It is worth noting that this sale was only 15% of Randal Kirk's holding.
In the last twelve months insiders purchased 60.22k shares for US$236k. On the other hand they divested 4.82m shares, for US$16m. In total, Precigen insiders sold more than they bought over the last year. They sold for an average price of about US$3.42. We don't gain confidence from insider selling near the recent share price. While some insiders have decided to take some money off the table, we wouldn't put too much weight on this fact. I will like Precigen better if I see some big insider buys.
Does Precigen Boast High Insider Ownership?
Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Precigen insiders own about US$175m worth of shares (which is 12% of the company). I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
