Why MasTec’s latest earnings and guidance matter for stock investors

MasTec (MTZ) recently posted higher second quarter and half year sales and net income compared with a year earlier. The company also issued guidance that points to higher revenue and GAAP earnings for 2026.

For the second quarter ended June 30, 2026, MasTec reported sales of US$4,373.55 million compared with US$3,544.71 million a year earlier. Net income was US$130.12 million compared with US$85.77 million for the prior year quarter. Basic earnings per share from continuing operations were US$1.67 compared with US$1.10, and diluted earnings per share from continuing operations were US$1.65 compared with US$1.09.

Over the first six months of 2026, MasTec reported sales of US$8,202.36 million compared with US$6,392.42 million a year earlier. Net income for the period was US$190.96 million compared with US$95.67 million. Basic earnings per share from continuing operations were US$2.45 compared with US$1.23, and diluted earnings per share from continuing operations were US$2.42 compared with US$1.21.

Alongside these results, MasTec issued guidance that gives investors additional visibility into management’s current expectations. For the third quarter ended September 30, 2026, the company expects revenue of US$4,930 million. GAAP net income is expected to be US$176 million and GAAP diluted earnings per share are expected to be US$2.03.

For the full year ending December 31, 2026, MasTec expects revenue of US$18,200 million. GAAP net income is expected to be US$539 million and GAAP diluted earnings per share are expected to be US$6.20. These figures outline the earnings profile management is currently planning for and provide reference points if you are tracking how actual results compare with expectations over time.

MasTec’s latest earnings update and its recent US$650 million senior notes offering land at a time when the share price has pulled back sharply in the short term, yet still sits well ahead of where it was a year or several years ago. This suggests recent momentum has cooled while the longer term total shareholder return remains strong.

Most Popular Narrative: 25.8% Undervalued

MasTec last closed at $258.63 compared with a most widely followed narrative fair value of $348.72. That gap frames how analysts see the stock today.

Rapid acceleration in utility grid modernization, data center build outs, and renewable energy investment is fueling double digit revenue growth and record backlog in MasTec's Power Delivery and Clean Energy & Infrastructure divisions. The company's leading position and customer relationships indicate continued outsized top line expansion over the next multi year cycle.

Want to understand why this narrative still sees upside after a strong multi year share price run? The story leans heavily on compounding revenue, rising margins and a richer earnings mix that must hold together for that valuation to make sense.

Result: Fair Value of $348.72 (UNDERVALUED)

However, MasTec’s story can change quickly if large customers delay projects, or if higher headcount and equipment spending fail to translate into the expected work.
