Even if it's not a huge purchase, we think it was good to see that James Frew, the President & CFO of Amplify Energy Corp. (NYSE:AMPY) recently shelled out US$99k to buy stock, at US$3.95 per share. While we're hesitant to get too excited about a purchase of that size, we do note it increased their holding by a solid 13%.

Amplify Energy Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In fact, the recent purchase by President & CFO James Frew was not their only acquisition of Amplify Energy shares this year. They previously made an even bigger purchase of US$268k worth of shares at a price of US$3.70 per share. That implies that an insider found the current price of US$3.94 per share to be enticing. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. If someone buys shares at well below current prices, it's a good sign on balance, but keep in mind they may no longer see value. In this case we're pleased to report that the insider bought shares at close to current prices. James Frew was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.
