NORDIC POWER-Nordic rates fall on weaker European gas prices, forecasts of wet weather
May 6 (Reuters) - Nordic forward power rates fell on Wednesday, as European gas prices retreated following news that the U.S. was considering a possible deal to end its war on Iran, with wetter weather forecasts adding further pressure.
* The Nordic front-quarter baseload power contract NSBLQc1 fell 1.61 euros or 3% to 51.6 euros per megawatt hour (MWh) at 11:28 GMT.
* The Nordic front-year power contract NSBLYc1 lost 1.75 euros or 3.7% to 46 euros per MWh.
* With gas and German power contracts continuing to slide and slightly more bearish signals from weather forecasts, modest price falls across the futures curve were likely, analysts at Mind Energy said in a note.
* Dutch and British wholesale gas prices fell by more than 4 euros, or nearly 9%, on Wednesday after U.S. President Trump indicated a possible deal to end the war. NG/EU
* Power prices for Germany's year-ahead contract TRDEBYc1, Europe's benchmark, were down 3.39 euros, or 3.7%, at 89.30 euros per MWh.
* "Northern Europe will remain under low-pressure influence through the next two weeks with moderately cool and generally moist air dominating. The resulting weather will be generally unsettled and cloudy with frequent rain delivering largely above-normal amounts across Scandinavia," said LSEG meteorologist Georg Mueller.
* Nordic water reserves PCAEC00 held at 31.93 terawatt hours (TWh) below normal on Wednesday, unchanged from the previous day. Last week, water reserves hit their lowest level since late July 2018.
* The European carbon market's benchmark contract CFI2Zc1 added 0.98 euro, or 1.3%, to 76.69 euros a metric ton.
