Possible Turnaround For Burning Rock Biotech Insiders, Still Down CN¥1.4m
Burning Rock Biotech Ltd. BNR | 0.00 |
Insiders who purchased CN¥11.6m worth of Burning Rock Biotech Limited (NASDAQ:BNR) shares over the past year recouped some of their losses after price gained 11% last week. However, total losses seen by insiders are still CN¥1.4m since the time of purchase.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.
Burning Rock Biotech Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Founder Yusheng Han bought US$6.1m worth of shares at a price of US$9.25 per share. That implies that an insider found the current price of US$9.78 per share to be enticing. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. We do always like to see insider buying, but it is worth noting if those purchases were made at well below today's share price, as the discount to value may have narrowed with the rising price. The good news for Burning Rock Biotech share holders is that an insider was buying at near the current price. Yusheng Han was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.
Yusheng Han bought 1.05m shares over the last 12 months at an average price of US$11.13. Does Burning Rock Biotech Boast High Insider Ownership?
Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Insiders own 31% of Burning Rock Biotech shares, worth about US$30m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
So What Do The Burning Rock Biotech Insider Transactions Indicate?
It is good to see the recent insider purchase. And an analysis of the transactions over the last year also gives us confidence. But we don't feel the same about the fact the company is making losses. Given that insiders also own a fair bit of Burning Rock Biotech we think they are probably pretty confident of a bright future. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
