Powell's goodbye as Fed chair: "won't see you next time"
April 29 (Reuters) - Jerome Powell on Wednesday told reporters as he closed out his final news conference as Federal Reserve chair that he "won't see you next time," a reference to the fact that when the Fed next meets to set policy, in mid-June, it will be Kevin Warsh and not Powell at any post-meeting news conference.
The quip underscored Powell's promise that while he plans to stay on as Fed governor for some time after his leadership term expires on May because of his concern about the Trump administration's ongoing attacks on Fed independence, he will not aim to be a shadow chair trying to undercut Warsh.
