Results: Transcat, Inc. Exceeded Expectations And The Consensus Has Updated Its Estimates
Transcat, Inc. TRNS | 0.00 |
A week ago, Transcat, Inc. (NASDAQ:TRNS) came out with a strong set of quarterly numbers that could potentially lead to a re-rate of the stock. It was overall a positive result, with revenues beating expectations by 7.4% to hit US$93m. Transcat also reported a statutory profit of US$0.14, which was an impressive 250% above what the analysts had forecast. Earnings are an important time for investors, as they can track a company's performance, look at what the analysts are forecasting for next year, and see if there's been a change in sentiment towards the company. We thought readers would find it interesting to see the analysts latest (statutory) post-earnings forecasts for next year.
Taking into account the latest results, the current consensus from Transcat's four analysts is for revenues of US$373.5m in 2027. This would reflect a satisfactory 7.2% increase on its revenue over the past 12 months. Per-share earnings are expected to jump 47% to US$0.54. Yet prior to the latest earnings, the analysts had been anticipated revenues of US$362.1m and earnings per share (EPS) of US$0.45 in 2027. So it seems there's been a definite increase in optimism about Transcat's future following the latest results, with a substantial gain in the earnings per share forecasts in particular.
Althoughthe analysts have upgraded their earnings estimates, there was no change to the consensus price target of US$104, suggesting that the forecast performance does not have a long term impact on the company's valuation. There's another way to think about price targets though, and that's to look at the range of price targets put forward by analysts, because a wide range of estimates could suggest a diverse view on possible outcomes for the business. Currently, the most bullish analyst values Transcat at US$113 per share, while the most bearish prices it at US$95.00. Still, with such a tight range of estimates, it suggeststhe analysts have a pretty good idea of what they think the company is worth.
Of course, another way to look at these forecasts is to place them into context against the industry itself. We can infer from the latest estimates that forecasts expect a continuation of Transcat'shistorical trends, as the 9.7% annualised revenue growth to the end of 2027 is roughly in line with the 12% annual growth over the past five years. Compare this with the broader industry, which analyst estimates (in aggregate) suggest will see revenues grow 7.3% annually. So although Transcat is expected to maintain its revenue growth rate, it's definitely expected to grow faster than the wider industry.
The Bottom Line
The most important thing here is that the analysts upgraded their earnings per share estimates, suggesting that there has been a clear increase in optimism towards Transcat following these results. Pleasantly, they also upgraded their revenue estimates, and their forecasts suggest the business is expected to grow faster than the wider industry. The consensus price target held steady at US$104, with the latest estimates not enough to have an impact on their price targets.
Following on from that line of thought, we think that the long-term prospects of the business are much more relevant than next year's earnings. We have estimates - from multiple Transcat analysts - going out to 2029, and you can see them free on our platform here.
