We wouldn't blame Rithm Capital Corp. (NYSE:RITM) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that David Saltzman, the Independent Director recently netted about US$748k selling shares at an average price of US$9.25. Probably the most concerning element of the whole transaction is that the disposal amounted to 65% of their entire holding.

Rithm Capital Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Chairman, Michael Nierenberg, sold US$3.3m worth of shares at a price of US$11.00 per share. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$9.26. So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it.

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Rithm Capital insiders own about US$18m worth of shares. That equates to 0.3% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out.
