UPDATE 1-Engie Brasil's share offering raises $1.7 billion

Updates July 14 story with Engie's confirmation

- The share offering by power company Engie Brasil EGIE3.SA raised about 8.36 billion reais ($1,65 billion) through the issuance of 274.1 million new shares at 30.50 reais each, the company said in a securities filing late on Tuesday.

The capital raise is linked to a transaction involving hydropower producer Jirau Energia. Engie Brasil Participacoes, the company's controlling shareholder, committed to subscribe for shares in exchange for its stake in Jirau, valued at 5.7 billion reais.

Following settlement of the offering, Engie Brasil Energia will become the holder of that stake, according to the filing.

Local newspaper Valor Economico had reported the pricing earlier on Tuesday.
