PRESSR: Amazon Web Services becomes the official cloud services provider for DP World Tour

Interactive artificial intelligence streamlines tournament experiences and enables data-driven processes.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: DP World Tour and Amazon Web Services (AWS) today announced their strategic partnership that will make the world’s most comprehensive and widespread cloud computing platform the official cloud services provider for the World Golf Tour.

Leveraging Amazon Web Services’ leading AI infrastructure, DP World Tour will launch a suite of solutions that combine real-time data provision with historical context to transform the experience for media, audiences, and players.

Improve and personalize your streaming and social media experience

Amazon Web Services will be used to stream video and on-demand content to fans, allowing them to watch quick recaps of selected player highlights. New and innovative experiences will be developed for fans watching matches on television and following them on social media and the internet, using generative artificial intelligence. These new experiences will include data-driven insights and commentary on footage with real-time translation.

Nina Walsh, Global Head of Sector Business Development at Amazon Web Services, said: “Building an AI system that understands the intricacies of golf is incredibly complex. Imagine watching a crucial shot on your mobile phone and being able to instantly see the distance, the historical success rate, the effect of wind, or how the player behaves under pressure, all with voice commentary in your preferred language. This is the experience we aspire to deliver to golf enthusiasts worldwide.”

The vast portfolio of DP World Tour assets will undergo a radical transformation through a new AI-powered media asset management system that automatically categorizes metadata. This system will transform the tour's massive digital environment into a smart, searchable archive capable of instantly identifying key players, plays, and moments. This will enable fans to access new digital offerings with more personalized content, allowing them to easily watch videos of their favorite players.

Keeping viewers informed

To ensure a superior viewing experience, Amazon Web Services will develop an enhanced second-generation version of its "Virtual Twin" tournament product, which creates a digital replica of each golf course. This technology processes over one million data points for each tournament, going beyond mere visuals to combine historical data, current conditions, and predictive analytics to provide a comprehensive view of every hole. This information is displayed on screens throughout the course and on mobile devices, allowing fans to follow the action from any hole, even if they are across the course.

Streamlining tournament organization processes using interactive artificial intelligence (Agentic AI)

For DP World Tour operations teams, the new AI platform will process and analyze big data sources in real time, ensuring that operational decisions such as deploying marshals, optimizing food and merchandise outlets, or informing fans about queue lengths and seat availability in the stands are based on up-to-the-minute information. Amazon Bedrock and Amazon Quick Suite will facilitate access to this information for everyone through new interactive experiences, helping the tour gain the insights needed to make better, data-driven decisions.

Globalizing the concept of smart stadiums

DP World Tour continues to develop its "Tournament as a Service" vision, which aims to create smart golf courses that deliver a seamless, data-rich experience at every event for players, partners, media, and fans. This vision will undergo a significant transformation starting in 2026, with the integration of tournament applications and data into the Amazon Web Services platform. This will enable greater scalability and flexibility to implement the "Tournament as a Service" concept across a larger number of tournaments each season.

Michael Cole, Chief Technology Officer at DP World Tour, said: “Golf is one of the most complex events in the world of professional sports. Instead of a single course, we are building a smart city every week, often in remote locations. This model is being replicated in 26 different countries around the world, each with different infrastructure requirements. By now hosting our tournament services on the Amazon Web Services platform, we will be able to deliver connected and smart golf courses with greater consistency and reliability, wherever we are in the world.”

Making tournaments more sustainable

In support of the Tour’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2040, Amazon Web Services will provide a new data platform called “Green Drive Live” to monitor and optimize energy consumption, emissions, waste, water, and logistics in real time. The platform will use machine learning technologies to predict and improve future environmental performance by simulating various operational scenarios before events begin. A live emissions dashboard will also be displayed on screens at the tournament venue and in the tournament app, showing real-time performance indicators.

DP World Tour has had a program since 2024 to increase the number of remotely produced television broadcasts, reducing the carbon footprint of each tournament by approximately 87 tons. Amazon Web Services' cloud-based live production services will be further explored to expand the scope of remote production implementation across the Tour.
