Zara, the international fashion and personal and home accessories company, expressed on Tuesday its regret over a “misunderstanding” caused by a propaganda campaign that social media users likened to scenes of destruction and death in Gaza.
On Sunday, tweeters called on social media platforms to boycott Zara store products in solidarity with the Gaza Strip and the Palestinians after publishing pictures showing models carrying corpses and body parts. Zara's statement is the company's first written response to the photos. It came after widespread calls to boycott Zara on social media sites, especially Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).
Zara said in a statement on its Instagram account that it decided to remove the photos that displeased some customers.
"Zara regrets this misunderstanding, and we reaffirm our deep respect for everyone," she said.
A large number of Instagram users expressed their anger at the images published by Zara, which said in its statement on Tuesday that the campaign was filmed in September and its sole aim was to show clothes in an artistic context. She added that what some customers saw in the pictures was far from what the company intended.
This comes as the Israeli raids on the Gaza Strip continue for the 67th day of the war between the Israeli army and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), with intense bombardment of the Gaza Strip, by air, land, and sea, amid international warnings of the worsening humanitarian catastrophe.
