Cairo – Mubasher: Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad held a meeting with representatives of the Jordanian Tanjaws Group for Owning and Establishing Commercial Projects to present an electronic application the company is implementing in the field of waste collection and management .
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, emphasized that Egypt has a national electronic system for managing waste information and data. This is an integrated system for obtaining licenses, approvals, and permits for waste and hazardous materials activities, which are issued electronically by the Waste Management Regulatory Agency.
She pointed out that it is an integrated institutional system for collecting, storing, and analyzing data related to waste management nationwide. It includes an electronic system for issuing licenses and permits for all companies operating in the field of waste management, whether in collection and transportation operations or in treatment and recycling operations. Work is also underway to develop the system .
During the meeting, the Minister of Environment listened to a presentation by representatives of the Jordanian Tanjos Group on the proposed waste collection and management system, which includes a software application that enables customers to easily and conveniently book and benefit from waste collection services.
The system enables dedicated waste management service providers to dispatch collection vehicles to efficiently collect waste according to waste categories and types. This system creates an integrated system from consumption to recycling, leveraging big data to enable recycling companies to plan recycling, storage, and expansion initiatives.
The application also provides relevant authorities with a platform that enables them to track and monitor waste collection and disposal points by approved licensed entities, and monitor data (reports and key performance indicators) related to waste management services. It also provides a dashboard for excess waste and its quantities, enabling recycling companies to expand their capacities or expand their storage space based on actual supply and demand, and based on the days of the week, the month, the seasons, and the annual cycles .
The Minister of Environment pointed out that the volume of waste in Egypt varies from 60,000 tons per day to 25 million tons per year. The Egyptian government has worked to establish an integrated infrastructure, including recycling plants to receive or safely dispose of waste, in addition to operating contracts the state has begun to conclude with the private sector.
