Abu Dhabi - Mubasher: The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) stated that workers' wages are due starting from the first day of the month following the month in which they are due.

The Ministry explained that an establishment is considered late in paying wages if they are not paid within the first 15 days of the due date, unless the employment contract stipulates a shorter period.

The Ministry indicated in the new issue of the Labor Market magazine that 99% of private sector workers are registered in the Wage Protection System .

He pointed out that the Wage Protection System ensures that workers receive their wages in full and on time, as this system enables employers to pay their workers' wages electronically through banks, exchange offices, and financial institutions approved and authorized to provide wage payment services by the Central Bank of the country, which contributes to the stability of the contractual relationship.

The Ministry noted that the mechanism of the Wage Protection System is to send an electronic alert notification to the establishment that does not comply with the payment of wages to its employees on the third and tenth days after the due date. On the seventeenth day after the due date, the issuance of new work permits to the establishment is suspended, with the establishment owner being notified of the reason for the suspension and salary restrictions being placed on the establishment. The establishment owner is also notified of the mechanism for lifting the restriction on the establishment if the customer so desires .

The Ministry has developed a wage protection system with technology that allows it to create a database and information on the payment of wages to private sector workers, and to monitor the extent to which operating establishments comply with paying wages on the agreed time and amount. The Ministry also has a number of automated regulatory and punitive measures in place to ensure the optimal application of the wage protection system to registered establishments .
