SAR ships 7.4 million tons of cargo in the first quarter of 2025

Riyadh - Mubasher: The Saudi Railways Company (SAR) revealed that it transported more than 3.3 million passengers across its various networks, including the Eastern Railway, the Northern Railway, and the Haramain High-Speed Railway, during the first quarter of this year, marking a 24% growth compared to the same period last year. The number of scheduled trips exceeded 10,000 .

In a statement, it added that it transported more than 7.4 million tons of minerals and various goods, achieving a 17% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This contributed to reducing reliance on trucks, enhancing road safety, and reducing carbon emissions .

Saudi Railways CEO Dr. Bashar bin Khalid Al-Malik explained that the results for the first quarter of 2025 reflect the rapid growth in demand for rail transport services.

He confirmed that this quarter witnessed unprecedented operational figures, including the Haramain High Speed Rail setting a record by transporting more than 48,000 passengers in a single day during Ramadan. The number of passengers traveling on it during the holy month exceeded 1.2 million .

He pointed out that SAR is moving forward toward achieving its strategic goals through operational expansion and launching quality projects, most notably the announcement of the designs for the luxury "Desert Dream" train, in collaboration with the Italian company Arsenale. This will be the first luxury tourist train of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa .

The first quarter witnessed SAR's participation in a number of prominent events, including the Hajj and Umrah Exhibition, the Public Investment Fund and Private Sector Forum, and the International Mining Conference, where the company showcased its most prominent passenger and freight transport services .
