PRESSR: Emirates Steel Arkan Group highlights sustainable manufacturing efforts

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: Emirates Arkan Steel Group (listed on the Abu Dhabi Stock Exchange with symbol: EMSTEEL), one of the largest companies operating in the iron and building materials production sector in the region, is hosting the twenty-sixth session of the Middle East Iron and Steel Conference, which will be held in November 20-22, 2023 at Atlantis Dubai, Palm Jumeirah. This pioneering event brings together more than 1,000 senior decision-makers to discuss the various challenges facing the sector and ensure the continuity and flexibility of its business, in addition to exploring related innovative solutions.
In this context, Engineer Saeed Al Ghaferi, CEO of Emirates Steel, one of the companies affiliated with the Emirates Steel Arkan Group, participated in a discussion session entitled “A New Era for the Steel Industry” that included various aspects of the sector in the region, including the latest projects and engines. Regional demand, challenges and opportunities associated with the energy sector transition, and the impact of the global geopolitical environment on the industry.
Al-Ghafri stressed that despite the slowdown in demand for iron in recent years, which is expected to decline by 9% in 2023 due to several factors including high interest rates and a decrease in demand for housing services, expectations for the next five years predict a recovery supported by strong economic development and growth. At the conclusion of his session, Al-Ghaferi affirmed the group’s commitment to leading decarbonization efforts from the sector on an unprecedented scale to achieve global carbon neutrality goals by implementing a thoughtful sustainability strategy aimed at harnessing carbon capture technologies and other innovative technologies at the industrial level. Al-Ghafri also stressed the importance of close cooperation between stakeholders in the public and private sectors to achieve the ambitious goals of transforming the energy sector and building a more sustainable and resilient circular economy.
Many executives from Emirates Steel Arkan participated in a series of discussion sessions that highlighted the opportunities available in the field of decarbonizing the sector globally, human capital management, the role of women in the steel industry, as well as the latest technological innovations in the sector.
