On Sunday, the Kuwaiti Court of Cassation ruled that former Defense Minister Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah be imprisoned for seven years with hard labor on charges related to the misuse of Army Fund funds, according to Reuters.

The case appeared publicly in 2019 and was known as the “Army Fund” case - a fund concerned with providing aid to the military in Kuwait - and related to millions of dinars of the fund’s money.

According to Reuters, on Sunday, the court did not issue a ruling to punish former Prime Minister Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah in the same case and obligated him to return sums of money.

Jaber Al-Mubarak submitted his resignation and that of his government in 2019 after members of the National Assembly (Parliament) sought to vote to withdraw confidence from Khaled Al-Jarrah while he was serving as Minister of Interior due to allegations of abuse of power related to the fund’s money.

Khaled Al-Jarrah is a member of the ruling family in Kuwait, according to Reuters.
