Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Earlier in November this year, Dubai Police renewed its awareness campaign to educate parents about their legal obligations to wear seat belts for their children. It had announced the death of two children in the emirate this year, and the serious injury of 45 others, in 47 traffic accidents .

“ Road Safety UAE conducted three batches of research in February 2017 (before the implementation of the comprehensive seat belt law), 2018 and 2021 with representative samples of the UAE,” says Thomas Edelmann, Managing Director at Road Safety UAE. With over 1,000 participants, we saw little change across 3 batches. Although nearly all participants understood the protective capabilities of child restraint systems (94 percent), and despite the law mandating them, 33 percent of parents did not have a restraint system for their children. "The main reason for non-ownership is not knowing which system to purchase (26 percent). We want to address this deficiency in partnership with Cybex."
