Dubai - Mubasher: DP World Sokhna Port witnessed a significant increase in handling volume during the first quarter of 2025, the highest level recorded since DP World began operating Ain Sokhna Port in 2008.

This confirms the port's strategic role in facilitating the flow of trade in the region and supporting economic growth in Egypt, according to a press release issued Wednesday .

During the first quarter of 2025, the port's throughput exceeded planned levels by 26%, clearly reflecting the port's growing strategic role in facilitating trade in the region and supporting the growth of the Egyptian economy.

Refrigerated container exports accounted for a significant portion of this growth, as Egypt continues its efforts to consolidate its position as one of the world's leading citrus exporters .

Since DP World took over operations in 2008, it has invested more than US$1.3 billion in modernizing Sokhna Port, enabling it to handle some of the world's largest cargo ships and providing seamless connectivity to global trade routes.

Moreover, this investment provided the digital infrastructure necessary to enable local and international companies to manage the movement of their goods efficiently and on demand .

“This level of growth clearly demonstrates the growing importance of Sokhna Port as a logistics hub, not only for Egypt, but for the region as a whole,” said Avinash Aiyar, Acting Regional CEO for Egypt, DP World.

He added: "Our ongoing investments in the logistics sector in Egypt, through our network of shipping offices and the Sokhna Logistics Zone, which will soon be completed, will contribute to providing better service to our customers, in addition to meeting the growing needs of the Egyptian market ."

Sokhna Port's ability to handle increasing volumes, particularly refrigerated cargo, contributes to the port's growing role in facilitating the trade of perishable goods in Egypt.

Citrus exports accounted for a significant portion of this growth, as Egypt continues to consolidate its position as one of the world's leading citrus exporters. Thanks to its advanced cold chain facilities and facilitated logistics services, Sokhna Port is ideally located to support Egypt's agricultural sector and efficiently transport temperature-sensitive goods to global markets .

In line with DP World's efforts to expand its presence in Egypt, DP World Sokhna Port represents a key pillar of an integrated and comprehensive supply chain for local Egyptian companies seeking to strengthen their connections with global trade routes .
