Abu Dhabi : EDGE Group, one of the world’s leading advanced technology and defense groups, and Hanwha Aerospace, a leading South Korean company specializing in aerospace and defense, signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at exploring strategic cooperation opportunities in the fields of advanced air and missile defense, long-range precision strikes, unmanned systems, and defense artificial intelligence .

Under the memorandum, Hanwha and EDGE are exploring a range of collaborative programs that leverage Hanwha’s technology portfolio alongside EDGE’s growing industrial ecosystem. Discussions between the two parties include advanced air defense technologies that could enable the creation of an integrated, multi-layered defense architecture designed to meet the UAE’s future needs, as well as potential support, production, and training models, such as options for establishing a dedicated maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capability in the UAE.

The two parties will assess opportunities for collaboration in defense artificial intelligence, exploring how to leverage real-world operational data and Hanwha's expertise in AI modeling to support the development of future capabilities. Additionally, the companies will review concepts related to unmanned ground systems and identify potential areas of cooperation in shipbuilding and marine maintenance services, including technologies that support the design, maintenance, and lifecycle sustainability of vessels.

The memorandum of understanding was signed following the recent summit between the leaders of the UAE and South Korea, during which both sides affirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral defense and industrial partnerships.
