Potential Lesaka Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:LSAK) shareholders may wish to note that the Executive Chairman, Ali Mazanderani, recently bought US$106k worth of stock, paying US$4.75 for each share. While that's a very decent purchase to our minds, it was proportionally a bit modest, boosting their holding by just 6.0%.

Lesaka Technologies Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the insider, Christopher Meyer, for US$380k worth of shares, at about US$4.89 per share. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$5.01, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. This single sale was just 8.8% of Christopher Meyer's stake. Christopher Meyer was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Christopher Meyer divested 106.22k shares over the last 12 months at an average price of US$4.67. Does Lesaka Technologies Boast High Insider Ownership?

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Insiders own 4.0% of Lesaka Technologies shares, worth about US$15m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Lesaka Technologies Insiders?

The recent insider purchase is heartening. But we can't say the same for the transactions over the last 12 months. The more recent transactions are a positive, but Lesaka Technologies insiders haven't shown the sustained enthusiasm that we look for, although they do own a decent number of shares, overall. In short they are likely aligned with shareholders. So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company.
