BUCHAREST (Romania), May 20 (SeeNews) - Engie Romania, part of French utility company Engie, said on Monday that it has finalised the acquisition of an 80 MW wind park from Czech investment firm EnerCap Group.
The wind park, located in Romania's southeastern commune of Chirnogeni, Constanta county, is expected to generate around 180 GWh of electricity per year, which is enough to power about 90,000 households, Engie said in a press release.
The transaction, whose value was not disclosed, almost doubled Engie Romania's wind energy generation capacity and brought its total installed capacity of wind and solar energy production to 202 MW.
"This strategic investment represents another important step towards achieving the objectives of reaching an installed capacity of 1,000 MW of renewable energy by 2030”, said Cristian Buzan, deputy general manager of Engie Romania.
Engie announced in January that it had signed an agreement to acquire the Chirnogeni wind farm.
In 2023, Engie announced it would build greenfield solar power plants in the Prahova and Braila counties, with installed capacities of 37.2 MWp and 9.3 MWp, respectively.
The Engie Group employs over 100,000 people globally and is present in Romania in natural gas, electricity and energy services sectors. Engie Romania currently operates two wind farms in the Braila and Galati counties, with a total installed capacity of 98 MW, as well as four solar parks in the Arad, Buzau, Harghita, and Teleorman counties, with a cumulated installed capacity of 24 MW.
