POLITICS
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Friday that talks among European Union countries over a new set of fiscal rules are proving difficult, as the bloc aims to complete the process by the end of the year.
Italy's government has softened plans to hike the retirement age from next year, under a draft budget seen by Reuters.
The government plans to hike taxes on short-term rentals for people letting out more than one flat, a draft of the 2024 budget seen by Reuters showed on Saturday.
ECONOMY
The Italian economy will grow only modestly this year and even more slowly in 2024 as it feels the impact of high inflation and an increase in interest rates, a report from the country's main business lobby Confindustria said on Saturday.

Credit rating agency DBRS on Friday joined S&P Global in confirming Italy's debt rating. DBRS rates Italy BBB (High) with a stable outlook.
COMPANIES
TELECOM ITALIA (TIM) TLIT.MI
The Italian government signalled on Saturday it still backed a proposed deal for TIM to sell its network grid to U.S. fund KKR KKR.N after the emergence of a rival plan for the telecoms group.
A London-based investment firm representing TIM shareholders owning under 3% of the group is seeking to challenge its plan to sell its landline grid, proposing an alternative revamp, a letter to the board seen by Reuters showed on Friday.

Mediobanca Chief Executive Alberto Nagel and his allies withstood opposition from the bank's biggest investor to retain a firm grip on the company in a shareholder vote on Saturday, with the CEO securing a new three-year mandate.
ENI ENI.MI
Israel's Energy Ministry said on Sunday it had awarded 12 licenses to six companies to explore for natural gas off the country's Mediterranean Coast, aiming to diversify suppliers. A group including ENI, Dana Petroleum and Ratio Petroleum RTPTp.TA will explore in an area west of the Leviathan field.
STELLANTIS STLAM.MI
Chrysler-parent Stellantis and the United Auto Workers (UAW) union have reached a tentative agreementon a new labour contract, UAW said on Saturday, more than 40 days after the union began striking against the Detroit Three automakers.
The accord, which follows the one reached by Ford F.N on Wednesday, left GM GM.N as the only Detroit automaker without a contract deal, prompting the UAW on Saturday to expand the strike to include GM's Spring Hill, Tennessee, engine plant.
