Pleasing Signs As A Number Of Insiders Buy Virco Mfg Stock
Virco Mfg. Corporation VIRC | 6.30 | +0.88% |
When a single insider purchases stock, it is typically not a major deal. However, when multiple insiders purchase stock, like in Virco Mfg. Corporation's (NASDAQ:VIRC) instance, it's good news for shareholders.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.
Virco Mfg Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when President & Director Douglas Virtue bought US$96k worth of shares at a price of US$7.34 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being US$6.99). While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when insiders have purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price.

Does Virco Mfg Boast High Insider Ownership?
Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Virco Mfg insiders own about US$38m worth of shares. That equates to 34% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
