PRA Group Insiders Placed Bullish Bets Worth US$526.9k
PRA Group, Inc. PRAA | 10.78 | -5.93% |
Usually, when one insider buys stock, it might not be a monumental event. But when multiple insiders are buying like they did in the case of PRA Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:PRAA), that sends out a positive message to the company's shareholders.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.
PRA Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Independent Director Geir Olsen for US$248k worth of shares, at about US$13.59 per share. That means that even when the share price was higher than US$12.96 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when insiders have purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price.

Insider Ownership
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. PRA Group insiders own about US$13m worth of shares. That equates to 2.1% of the company. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
What Might The Insider Transactions At PRA Group Tell Us?
The recent insider purchase is heartening. And an analysis of the transactions over the last year also gives us confidence. But on the other hand, the company made a loss during the last year, which makes us a little cautious. Insiders likely see value in PRA Group shares, given these transactions (along with notable insider ownership of the company). In addition to knowing about insider transactions going on, it's beneficial to identify the risks facing PRA Group.
