Shareholders May Not Overlook PowerFleet Insiders Selling US$1.8m In Stock
PowerFleet, Inc. AIOT | 3.79 | +0.80% |
PowerFleet, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:AIOT) stock rose 13% last week, but insiders who sold US$1.8m worth of stock over the last year are probably in a more advantageous position. Selling at an average price of US$6.83, which is higher than the current price, may have been the wisest decision for these insiders as their investment would have been worth less now than when they sold.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.
PowerFleet Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Chief Customer Officer, Catherine Lewis, for US$1.8m worth of shares, at about US$7.05 per share. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of US$5.00. So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price. The only individual insider seller over the last year was Catherine Lewis.
In the last twelve months insiders purchased 33.16k shares for US$149k. But they sold 270.00k shares for US$1.8m. Insider Ownership
Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It appears that PowerFleet insiders own 6.2% of the company, worth about US$39m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
So What Does This Data Suggest About PowerFleet Insiders?
The fact that there have been no PowerFleet insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. We don't take much encouragement from the transactions by PowerFleet insiders. But we do like the fact that insiders own a fair chunk of the company. If you are like me, you may want to think about whether this company will grow or shrink.
