We'd be surprised if Orthofix Medical Inc. (NASDAQ:OFIX) shareholders haven't noticed that the President, Massimo Calafiore, recently sold US$301k worth of stock at US$15.52 per share. The eyebrow raising move amounted to a reduction of 19% in their holding.

Orthofix Medical Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In fact, the recent sale by Massimo Calafiore was the biggest sale of Orthofix Medical shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$14.40. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign.

Happily, we note that in the last year insiders paid US$373k for 26.15k shares. But they sold 36.19k shares for US$533k. Over the last year we saw more insider selling of Orthofix Medical shares, than buying. They sold for an average price of about US$14.72. It's not particularly great to see insiders were selling shares at below recent prices. Since insiders sell for many reasons, we wouldn't put too much weight on it. An insider sold Orthofix Medical shares recently, but they didn't buy any. Despite some insider buying, the longer term picture doesn't make us feel much more positive. Insiders own relatively few shares in the company, and when you consider the sales, we're not particularly excited about the stock. We'd certainly practice some caution before buying!
