We'd be surprised if Evolus, Inc. (NASDAQ:EOLS) shareholders haven't noticed that the Independent Director, Karah Parschauer, recently sold US$167k worth of stock at US$12.99 per share. The eyebrow raising move amounted to a reduction of 29% in their holding.

Evolus Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the President, David Moatazedi, for US$1.8m worth of shares, at about US$12.73 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$13.20). We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. We note that the biggest single sale was 100% of David Moatazedi's holding.

In the last year Evolus insiders didn't buy any company stock. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. I will like Evolus better if I see some big insider buys.

Insider Ownership Of Evolus

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Insiders own 1.9% of Evolus shares, worth about US$16m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.

What Might The Insider Transactions At Evolus Tell Us?

An insider sold stock recently, but they haven't been buying. And even if we look at the last year, we didn't see any purchases. While insiders do own shares, they don't own a heap, and they have been selling. We'd practice some caution before buying! So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company. While conducting our analysis, we found that Evolus has 2 warning signs and it would be unwise to ignore them.
