Survey: 89% of Saudi university students used artificial intelligence in their studies

Riyadh - Mubasher: The Chegg Global Student Survey 2025 revealed that nearly 9 out of 10 Saudi students surveyed (89%) used generative artificial intelligence as a support tool during their university studies, the third highest rate among all countries surveyed (after Indonesia 95%, and Malaysia 90%).
58% of Saudi students reported that “assignments that require academic research” were the main reason they used generative AI, while 42% of Saudi students who used the technology expressed concern about “receiving incorrect or inaccurate information” when using generative AI tools that were not specifically created to support university studies .
The results of the Global Student Survey 2025 are based on an in-depth survey conducted by Yonder Consulting of 11,700 university students aged 18-21 in 15 countries, including 500 students in Saudi Arabia.
Chegg published its first Global Student Survey in February 2021, with subsequent editions in April 2022 and November 2023 .
44% of Saudi students surveyed revealed their desire to develop generative AI tools dedicated to education to assist them in their educational tasks.
Nine out of 10 Saudi students surveyed (88%) also expressed a need for these tools to be available in their colleges and universities, a higher percentage than any other country participating in the survey.
The percentage of Saudi students who believe that their teachers and professors are qualified to teach effectively online has increased significantly, rising from 67% in 2023 to 84% this year, the highest percentage recorded in this survey .
The survey also showed a growing appreciation for university education among Saudi students, with 91% of them believing that their university education is worth the cost. This is the highest percentage in the world, and has witnessed a significant increase compared to 79% last year, while only 2% of students disagreed with their colleagues.
Saudi Arabia also ranked first globally in this survey in terms of the number of students who confirmed that their education prepares them well for the labor market, at 92%, compared to 81% in 2023 .
Regarding the mental health of students in Saudi Arabia, it has witnessed a significant improvement, as the percentage of those suffering from daily anxiety decreased from 44% in 2023 to 28% in this year’s survey, which is the lowest percentage alongside Malaysia compared to other countries participating in the survey .
According to the survey, Saudi students have a positive and optimistic outlook on life in general.
The Kingdom ranked third globally in the percentage of students who feel optimistic about their financial situation in the future (after Kenya 91% and South Africa 90%), as this percentage rose from 80% in 2023 to 90% this year.
92% of students also believe they will own their own home before the age of 35, the third highest percentage among all the countries surveyed (after Kenya 95% and South Africa 93 % ).
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia outperformed the rest of the countries included in the survey in the percentage of students who feel happy with their lives in general, and this percentage increased from 81% in the 2023 survey to 91% this year.
The percentage of Saudi students who find their country a good place to live also increased from 85% in 2023 to 91%, recording the second highest percentage among the countries participating in the survey (after Australia, which recorded a percentage of 91 % ).
