The United Nations is allocating funding and personnel to contain Ebola in Congo.
GENEVA, May 22 (Reuters) - The United Nations will allocate about $60 million from its emergency fund to help contain the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and will deploy more staff, UN emergency relief coordinator Tom Fletcher said on Friday.
Fletcher added on X, "We have to anticipate this Ebola outbreak... These are challenging working environments to carry out life-saving work. We are facing conflicts and intense population movement."
Experts believe that the Bundibugyo strain of the virus, for which there is no vaccine, spread undetected for nearly two months in Congo's Ituri province before it was discovered last week.
The outbreak has so far resulted in 160 deaths out of 670 suspected cases.
