Al-Ahli Saudi, the Asian champions, announce Kessie's departure

- Saudi Arabia's Al-Ahli, the Asian Champions League title holders, announced the departure of their defender Franck Kessie after three years with the Jeddah club.

Al-Ahly said via its account on the X app, "Thank you Frank Casey... 3 years full of coverage and excellence... You did your duty and more."

The announcement of Kessie's departure (29 years old) came just one day after his country, Ivory Coast, lost 2-1 to Norway in the round of 32 of the current World Cup.

Kessie played 119 matches for the Asian champions, scoring 26 goals and providing 14 assists.

Al-Ahli Saudi retained the AFC Champions League title with a 1-0 victory over Japan’s Machida Zeleva in the final at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah last April.

Al-Ahli became the first team to successfully defend its title since its local rival Al-Ittihad, which did so in 2005.
