The number of weekly unemployment claims in America fell more than expected.
WASHINGTON, June 25 (Reuters) - The number of new U.S. unemployment claims fell more than expected last week, reflecting the strength of the labor market.
The U.S. Labor Department reported on Thursday that initial applications for unemployment benefits fell by 12,000 to a seasonally adjusted 215,000 for the week ending June 20. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast 225,000 claims for the week.
There were no signs that employers were resorting to widespread layoffs as a result of rising costs exacerbated by the US war in Iran. However, companies remained cautious about hiring.
