- Walt Disney, the distributor of the "Star Wars" film series, said on Sunday that its new film, "The Mandalorian and Groujo," is expected to earn nearly $165 million worldwide by the end of the Memorial Day holiday weekend in the United States.

The company added that approximately $102 million of the total amount will come from the United States and Canada.

Total domestic revenue exceeded expectations ahead of the weekend, but it represents the lowest opening revenue for any of Disney's "Star Wars" films.

The film revolves around a helmeted bounty hunter and his assistant, nicknamed "Baby Yoda" by fans. The duo first appeared on the small screen in the Disney+ series "The Mandalorian" in 2019.

"Solo: A Star Wars Story" was the lowest-grossing Disney Star Wars film, earning $103 million during Memorial Day weekend in 2018, and was considered a flop.

However, the budget for "Grogoo" was lower than most other "Star Wars" films, at approximately $165 million.
