PRESSR: Department of Municipalities and Transport launches professional qualification tests for engineers in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi, UAE : The Department of Municipalities and Transport has launched a series of professional qualification tests for engineers that are mandatory for upgrading registered engineers as practitioners to specialists in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, starting from September 2024.
The initiative provides currently practicing engineers with a six-month period from the date of implementation to complete their tests and upgrade their registration category to ensure the continuity of the classification of the establishments to which they are registered. Engineers wishing to obtain accreditation as specialists must pass the tests after meeting the current standards for each specialty as approved by the department.
The first phase of the initiative, which is designed to assess and raise the quality of work in the construction sector, includes five tests, each covering one of the targeted engineering specialties: architectural engineering, structural engineering (consultants), structural engineering (contractors), in addition to mechanical engineering and civil engineering. The tests will start for engineers in the architectural engineering specialization first, followed by tests in the other specializations during the fourth quarter of the same year.
Commenting on the launch of the tests, Eng. Al Harith Ahmed, Acting Director of the Classification and Registration of Professions Department at the Department of Municipalities and Transport, said: “These specialized tests confirm our commitment to raising the level of performance in the engineering and construction sectors in Abu Dhabi, which reflects the priorities of the Department of Municipalities and Transport in promoting a sustainable future for our emirate.”
This type of test is designed to ensure the readiness and ability of engineers, their knowledge of building regulations in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and to evaluate their technical skills and professional and administrative practices with the aim of applying the best international practices in the field of building technical and specialized competencies and upgrading the engineering sector in the emirate.
The department explained that the launch of these tests comes in the wake of the recent implementation of the comprehensive engineering performance and excellence evaluation system, to evaluate engineering companies according to the highest standards in Abu Dhabi, with the aim of raising the level of the engineering sector and improving quality and sustainability practices in the emirate.
