TAIPEI, May 27 (Reuters) - Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang said on Wednesday that the company plans to invest about $150 billion a year in Taiwan, describing it as the "center" of the artificial intelligence revolution and predicting it will remain the global hub for the technology industry for a long time.
“Four or five years ago, Nvidia was spending between $10 billion and $15 billion a year in Taiwan,” added Huang, president of the $5 trillion chipmaker. “Now we are spending $100 billion, and that number will rise to $150 billion a year.”
These remarks were made during a ceremony held in Taipei to mark the launch of the company's planned headquarters in Taiwan, which Huang said would have its foundation stone laid this year and would begin operations in 2030.
Huang did not specify a timeframe for the number of years the company intends to maintain $150 billion annually.
"Taiwan is experiencing a real boom," Huang said at the ceremony, which was attended by his parents, wife, daughter, son, and about 1,000 employees. "Taiwan is the center of the AI revolution; this is where the chips come from, this is where the packaging takes place, this is where the systems are made, and this is where AI supercomputers were born. The number of partners we work with here in Taiwan is truly amazing."
