Zawya - News: Details - Egypt's unemployment rate falls to 6% during the first quarter of 2026

Egypt’s unemployment rate declined during the first quarter of 2026 to 6% from 6.2% in the fourth quarter of last year, 2025, according to a statement issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics on Friday.

On an annual basis, the unemployment rate also decreased by 0.3%, recording a rate of 6.3% in the first quarter of 2025.

(According to Friday's statement)

- The number of employed people increased during the first quarter of 2026 by about 610,000 compared to the previous quarter, while the number of unemployed people decreased by 26,000.

- The number of unemployed people in the first quarter of 2026 was recorded at approximately 2.13 million, compared to 2.15 million in the previous quarter.

- During the first quarter of 2026, the unemployment rate among males was 3.6%, down from 3.8% during the previous quarter, while the unemployment rate among females remained stable at 14.3%.
