Abu Dhabi, UAE – The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, launched the Premium Mark for locally produced chilled chicken meat products during its participation in the “Made in the UAE” event. This initiative falls under the Healthy Living Strategy and aims to enhance the quality of food products and boost the competitiveness of the food sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the UAE.

The launch of the mark comes as part of an integrated program to develop an advanced conformity system for chilled chicken meat products, based on precise technical standards that exceed the minimum UAE standard specifications, ensuring the highest levels of quality throughout the value chain, starting from poultry farming and feeding, through slaughtering and processing, to packaging and distribution. The program also includes advanced requirements that include animal welfare, sustainability, and the quality of the final product, in addition to applying a classification system that distinguishes the products that have obtained the mark within different quality categories, which enhances consumer confidence and supports healthy and safe choices in local markets. The program is being developed in cooperation with regulatory bodies and the private sector, with the adoption of assessment mechanisms and conformity certificates that ensure continuous compliance with standards, in addition to market monitoring and follow-up plans to ensure quality sustainability.

His Excellency Engineer Bader Al Shamili, Executive Director of the Conformity and Specifications Sector, affirmed that launching the premium food mark represents a strategic step to enhance the food security system in the emirate and support the competitiveness of national products in local and global markets, saying: “This program represents a qualitative leap in developing food quality standards and confirms Abu Dhabi’s commitment to adopting the best global practices in the food sector, which contributes to enhancing consumer confidence, supporting local products, and motivating the private sector to innovate and improve production quality.” His Excellency added, “The program contributes to empowering the poultry sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, raising the efficiency of food supply chains, and enhancing the added economic value of national products, in line with the state’s directions towards developing vital sectors and enhancing food sustainability.”

His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al Khazraji, Executive Director of the Healthy Living Sector, said: “This initiative complements the inter-sectoral initiatives that we are implementing within the framework of the Healthy Living Strategy in Abu Dhabi, which works to enhance the food system and empower the consumer to make better choices. By raising production standards, the premium food label supports empowering the consumer to choose more consciously, consolidates the self-sufficiency and food security of the local system, and enhances consumer confidence in high-quality products manufactured in the UAE.”

For his part, Dr. Sayed Essam Al Hashemi, Acting Executive Director of the Development and Innovation Sector at the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, affirmed that launching the premium food mark is a cornerstone of the Authority’s strategy to solidify Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading global hub for food security. He explained that the mark transcends being merely a symbol of quality, becoming a strategic enabler for local poultry producers. It is based on precise technical standards encompassing animal welfare and sustainability, ensuring the availability of superior local products that meet consumer expectations and enhance their confidence in national products .

Al Hashemi said: “This initiative reflects our commitment to developing a sustainable and innovative food production system. It is the result of close collaboration between the Authority, the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, and the Healthy Lifestyle Unit . This integration embodies an advanced model of joint government action aimed at establishing production standards that go beyond traditional requirements and strongly support the competitiveness of national industries in the markets .” He added that the program provides a comprehensive framework for improving performance across the entire food value chain, from breeding and feeding practices, through slaughtering and processing, to packaging and distribution . He emphasized that this approach motivates producers to innovate and adopt the best global technologies, which contributes to raising the efficiency of local production, enhancing the sustainability of the sector, and achieving a positive long-term economic impact.

The Council affirms that the program will have a tangible economic impact at the UAE level, by supporting local food industries, increasing their competitiveness, opening new horizons for national products to spread in regional and international markets, in addition to enhancing investor confidence in the food sector, and consolidating Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading center for food quality.
