Zawya - Press Releases: Emaar and Lootah Biofuels launch sustainable biofuel for yachts at Dubai Marina and Creek Marina clubs

Dubai, UAE – Emaar Hospitality Group, in collaboration with Lootah Biofuels, announced the launch of an initiative to supply yachts with sustainable biofuel at Dubai Marina Yacht Club and Dubai Creek Marina Yacht Club, making it one of the first initiatives of its kind in the leisure yacht sector in the Arabian Gulf region .

This initiative reinforces Emaar’s position as one of the leading institutions in adopting sustainable biofuel solutions for yachts, in line with the UAE’s vision for climate neutrality 2050, and reflects the group’s commitment to implementing sustainability as a practical approach in its operations within the hospitality and marine leisure sectors .

Under this partnership, Dubai Marina Yacht Club and Dubai Creek Marina Yacht Club will begin supplying their members and yacht owners with Sustainable Yacht Biofuel (SBYF) produced by Lootah Biofuels from recycled cooking oils collected from hotels, residential complexes, and integrated development projects. These oils are converted into high-quality marine-grade biofuel, providing yacht owners with a practical and environmentally friendly option directly from their marinas .

Commenting on the initiative, Nicholas Bellaton of Emaar Hospitality Group said: “We put sustainability at the heart of our business across our various marinas and hotel assets. By launching sustainable biofuel for yachts, we are providing our members with a realistic and responsible option that aligns with the UAE’s 2050 climate neutrality goals and sets a new benchmark for environmental innovation in the leisure yacht sector.”

The project will be implemented gradually to ensure operational readiness, stable fuel quality, and long-term supply sustainability. Yacht owners and club members will be able to refuel with biofuel at dedicated filling points within both Dubai Marina Yacht Club and Creek Marina Yacht Club, facilitating access and providing an effective option for reducing carbon emissions .

Through this initiative, Emaar continues its well-considered, regionally appropriate approach to emissions reduction, focusing on practical practices and local resources rather than mere slogans. The partnership also highlights the role of the circular economy in promoting sustainability within Emaar's hospitality, entertainment, and marina operations .

Lootah Biofuels, an Emirati company specializing in producing biodiesel from used cooking oils, will handle the collection, processing, and supply of the biofuel to the two ports. Its solutions have proven highly effective in reducing carbon emissions compared to conventional marine fuels .

Yousef Saeed Lootah, CEO of Lootah Biofuels, commented: “We are proud to collaborate with Emaar to launch sustainable biofuel for yachts in Dubai’s marine leisure sector, an initiative that proves that wasted local materials can be transformed into high-value energy solutions that support environmental and operational progress in the UAE .

The first phase of sustainable fueling operations will take place at Dubai Marina and Creek Yacht Clubs according to a set schedule, with the possibility of expansion later based on demand. The initiative is expected to contribute to a gradual reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from recreational yachting activities in the region .

It is worth noting that Dubai Marina Yacht Club holds prestigious environmental accreditations, including the "Clean Marina" and "Fish-Friendly " certifications, reflecting its commitment to responsible and sustainable maritime practices. The club also launched an innovative initiative to provide sustainable drinking water by extracting "water from the air, " where moisture is extracted from the atmosphere and converted into potable water, which has been provided to captains and yacht crews for a year. The launch of sustainable biofuel is an extension of these efforts and a further step in Emaar's vision to promote sustainability in the marine leisure sector in a practical and impactful way .

This step also falls within Emaar’s ongoing commitment to implementing sustainability principles across all its operations and products. Through its collaboration with Lootah Biofuels at both Dubai Marina Yacht Club and Dubai Creek Marina Yacht Club, Emaar aims to support the UAE’s climate goals and provide yacht owners and club members with a responsible and efficient refueling option.

Nicholas Bellaton concluded , "Our goal is to make sustainability a tangible reality, not just a slogan. This partnership represents a practical step towards a cleaner and more sustainable maritime experience for all our guests."
