Zawya - Press Releases: Elcom strengthens its global leadership in maritime communications with an agreement with Amazon Liu

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – ELCOME , a global provider of maritime communications technologies and satellite communications solutions, today announced that it has signed an approved resale agreement with Amazon Leo, formerly known as Project Kuiper, to provide satellite communications services to the commercial maritime sector .

Under this agreement, Elcom will provide Amazon Leo service to the fleet operating in all major oceans, supporting commercial cargo ships, offshore service vessels, commercial fishing vessels, and yachts. Building on the existing fleet communications network covering more than 5,000 vessels, the addition of Amazon Leo Pro and Leo Ultra stations will provide operators with an independent low Earth orbit connectivity path, improving network availability and diversity at sea. Customers will experience increased flexibility, enhanced application performance, and accelerated modernization of digital operations both onboard and between vessels and shore .

Amazon Leo is creating one of the most advanced satellite communications systems in the world. With a constellation of thousands of satellites in low Earth orbit, this system will provide lower latency and higher data transmission capacity than traditional geostationary satellite solutions, enabling real-time applications, telemetry, remote operations, and hybrid network architectures .

Jimmy Grewal, Managing Director of Elcom, said: "This agreement reinforces our mission to provide scalable, future-proof global connectivity for the maritime industry. Amazon Liu technology will transform how ships communicate, operate, and integrate with their coastal networks ."
